Blood tests, how often should they be done?

In the area of prevention, certainly the BLOOD ANALYSIS are a very important tool as they are used to assess one’s overall health status. Through the values resulting from blood tests, in fact, it is possible to identify a medical condition that possibly needs to be investigated further.

Blood tests are prescribed by the doctor

Blood tests are prescribed by your doctor when you experience symptoms such as fatigue, weakness or other problems, but you generally do not need to have anything obvious to undergo this test.

Rather, it is a good idea to have these checkups approximately 2 times a year (or at least once a year anyway) but of course the frequency will depend on the person’s health status, age and gender.

Depending on your age group, in fact, you are more or less prone to certain risks, but it is also generally good to listen to the advice of your doctor who knows the clinical picture of his patients.

In fact, if you have a medical condition, checkups should be more frequent or in any case you should refer to the instructions of your attending physician (including when reading test results).

The most important tests to be performed

The most important examinations to be performed most frequently are parameters involving white blood cells (as they fight infection), red blood cells (responsible for oxygen transport) and platelets (which promote blood clotting).

In addition to these three fundamental elements for health, it would be good to add values such as hemoglobin (in charge of oxygen transport in red blood cells) and hematocrit (given by the percentage of red blood cells that make up the plasma in the blood).

Still, cholesterol levels, blood sugar, kidney and liver health, the presence of any anemia, infections, cardiovascular diseases and hematological problems: in short, blood tests are a real comprehensive check-up to get a general picture of the state of health.
